Super Bowl Sunday: Americans expected to eat record 1.4 billion chicken wings

It’s no secret that American sporting events are a big pastime that involves tailgating and food filled homes with people surrounding the television. Everyone loves the food that accompanies the big games! Your favorites probably include homemade dips, snack trays, burgers and BBQ. One thing they almost definitely include is chicken wings!

According to the National Chicken Council’s Annual Chicken Wing Report, Americans are expected to eat 1.4 BILLION chicken wings during the Super Bowl this year. That’s 27 Million more than during the big game in 2019. And just so we are clear… This is just traditional bone-in wings. The National Chicken Council doesn’t include boneless wings in this estimate!

In an interview with USA Today, National Chicken Council spokesman Tom Super said that “Super Bowl is the single-biggest wing occasion”. With these staggering numbers, it’s no surprise that Super Bowl Sunday has been the No. 1 revenue day of the year for chicken wing restaurants. With one of the nations largest wing restaurants (Buffalo Wild Wings) charging about $1.17/wing, the Super Bowl alone will be generating billions of dollars in sales… Of just wings… Sports in America = BIG bucks!
